Hayes' First Week Home

Finally! Hayes is here and his room is ready - thanks to Tann and Nana...

and Granddaddy. 

These were prints from his home that Tanner grew up looking at. He decided to decorate Hayes' room with Nana's help!

This week was quite a blur...

but one thing was very clear, we were in love...again!

 Audrey was also in love...

with the puppies! 

This was her favorite activity for the first few days, other than running to her Mama C and Daddy D when Hayes was around. Some call it running away, while we call it coping. My parents stayed for the first 5 days to help out, and boy did we need it.

Hayes became an after thought to Audrey. She was always a daddy's girl, but even more so now.

After a few days, she finally warmed up to him and was actually interested! I guess after holding the puppies, she realized a baby brother might not be so bad!

She wanted to hold her baby brother! 

Yeah! We were so proud of our big girl!

 She's no longer the baby! We now have to convince her that she is a big girl. She looks huge in comparison to Hayes, and actually is huge!

Playing with her Aqua Doodle. Thanks Mama C and Daddy D! If you haven't seen this, the marker writes on the pad with water. So when she tries to color her hands and face with the marker, all that comes out is water! Genius! Usually when she gets her hands on markers, she colors as much of her body as possible. Mommy loves it when she does this!

Nina came to stop by to see Audrey and Hayes. 

Nina was so much fun, playing the cupcake game with Audrey. They kept saying "cupcake" back and forth to each other, while getting louder and sillier each time. Audrey was eating it up. It is amazing what simple things entertain kids. All the while, Hayes was doing what he does best...

sleeping. Well, maybe pooping should be right along with that! It was time to get that boy cleaned up... 

while he had plans to do the opposite. Of course he pooped right as I was getting started! Lovely!

But who could resist our little frog baby? As I remember, Audrey was a little frog baby too! They both liked their legs tucked next to their bellies.

I was so nervous about Audrey becoming used to having baby brother here, instead of in my tummy. This whole week she kept looking at my stomach wondering where the baby was. Other than the initial aversion to Hayes, she did pretty well all in all. She loves to count his toes, give him kisses, and hold him. She loves to get his diapers. One day while she was bathing, I was changing his diaper in the bathroom. She saw me putting the bootie cream on him, and she got upset. That was her bootie cream! I had to explain that we didn't want his bootie to hurt, just like we don't want her bootie to hurt. That's why we put the cream on. Then she was okay! There are a few other instances where she has become a little territorial, like when I was laying him on the towel. She thought it was her towel, because I change her on the counter in the bathroom. I had to show her what his towel looked like, and reassure her that Hayes would not be using her towel. It is funny the things she has labeled as "mine". We are still in that phase, and hope it will end soon.
